Interview with Anurag Basu
October 19, 2008
The Terra has an interview with director Anurag Basu where he talks about working with Hrithik in Kites.
Tell us about KITES
Kites is an astounding unique concept which has never been tried before in bollywood.
Really ..? What's so unique about Kites?
Kites is a language independent entertainer. People of any part of the globe speaking any language can easily understand the film and relate to it with out knowledge of Hindi or English in which the film is being shot. With the world turning into a global village, I wanted to target global audience not just Indian audience. I was successful in entertaining Indian audience through my previous movies so why not global audience? Let's see how far I can succeed in my attempt.
Wow… the concept of language independent film is incredible and seems inconceivable. How do you achieve language independency in a film?
To make a long story short …minimal dialogues.. lot of action and visualization.
It should be very challenging for actors especially for Hritik…
Yes.. It is.. and I am amazed at Hritik's meticulous adherence to acting and personal appearance in this movie.
How is it like working with Hritik?
Hritik is a brilliant and hard working actor. He puts his best effort in every scene. Hritik and I think in similar lines on a lot of conceptualities in movie making. He is innovative and open to novel approaches in film making
Will Kites be released internationally?
Kites will be released all over the world in English and Hindi.
Bollywood's new look
October 19, 2008
Designer Suneet Varma talks about styling the clothes for Kites.
Roshan Jr may not have simplified Varma's grooming regime, but the designer admits that the actor was "very involved". "He is a perfectionist and wanted to know everything about the way his character should look. I could not just pick up a good-looking jacket and say this will work. I had to convince him why it works for the character, why the character would be wearing it at that point and whether he would be able to afford such a jacket or not," he says in a phone interview.
For Kites, however, he had almost six months to work on the looks of four characters. He had Polaroid shots of every outfit—complete with accessories— attached to his script and extra pairs of the same costumes prepared for important scenes like the long climax in which Hrithik will be seen in the same costume for about 20 minutes.
He was approached by the Roshans last year after they attended a fashion show in Singapore where he was showcasing his clothes. Varma was unaware of the filmi family's presence till he got a call from Rakesh Roshan a month later, asking him if he wanted to work on Kites, directed by Anurag Basu and starring Ranaut and model-actor Barbara Mori. "At that point, Hrithik's Jodhaa Akbar had just released and his look was very different—traditional and steeped in Indian design. Since his character Jay in Kites is that of a guy based in LA and Las Vegas, they were looking for someone who could create a contemporary and international look for the film," says Varma, who hotfooted it to Mumbai to meet the Roshans.
Interview with Kangana Ranaut
October 19, 2008
Kangana Ranaut talks about working with Hrithik in an interview with Mumbai Mirror.
With Kites, you make a foray into the big league. How has the experience been?
Working with Hrithik Roshan, Barbara Mori and Rakesh Roshan's production is a big high. I have made great friends with Hrithik, Barbara and a lot of Mexican people there. Shooting with a foreign crew is a great learning experience.
How was Hrithik as a co-worker? He comes across as a reserved actor
It is a misconception that Hrithik is reserved. He was friendly and a perfect host. He took care of everyone on the sets by ensuring that everyone was fed on time and given a good hotel room. I think he is perfect as a co-star, producer, father, son and husband. He used to take care of his kid so perfectly too. He's truly a perfect man! It was great interacting with his wife, Sussane. But I bonded best with their elder son, Hrehan.
Apparently, there was a conflict between producer Rakesh Roshan and director Anurag Basu on the sets
Rakeshji never used to interfere in Anurag's work. Though they would discuss the film, it was always off the sets. There has been no clash between them, at least not in front of me.
Hrithik in Bhansali's next
October 19, 2008
According to Star Box Office, Hrithik hasn't said yes to Sanjay Leela Bhansali's next movie yet but he is happy with the script. Hrithik will make the final decision after he returns from the US where he's currently filming Kites.
Hrithik's business manager says that this is the second project that Bhansali has offered Hrithik. "He got this offer from Bhansali after he rejected the first one. Currently talks are going on as Hrithik has liked the script and will make the final decision after he returns back from US where he is currently filming for Kites. He hasn't yet said yes but he is very happy with the script," she says.
Another source close to Bhansali also confirmed the news to us. In fact they say that it's not just Hrithik, but also Ranbir and Deepika who will be a part of the film. "Sanjay Leela Bhansali has approached Hrithik but at the same time he has also approached Ranbir and Deepika for the other two leads. This film is a contemporary love story and will be a love triangle," says the source. If the project falls into place, this will be the first time Bhansali will direct Hrithik.
Bhansali signs Hrithik for his next
October 16, 2008
India Times report that Hrithik has signed Sanjay Leela Bhansali's next movie, no comfirmation from Hrithik himself so take it as a rumour for now.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali who always had Hrithik Roshan on his wish list, has finally managed to sign him for his next. According to a reliable industry source Hrithik has signed Bhansali's next which he will start after completing his forthcoming film Chenab Gandhi.
It is believed that Bhansali who always wanted Hrithik to do Chenab Gandhi couldn't manage to do so, but when he got another script he thought of Hrithik once again. Bhansali spoke to Hrithik who is currently shooting for Anurag Basu's Kites. Interestingly Hrithik loved the story and said yes to Bhansali's yet to be titled film.
Needless to say this untitled film will be Bhansali's another big budget film. Thus all the details about the film remain a secret. Since Bhansali will commence Harman Baweja, Vidya Balan and Amitabh Bachchan starrer Chenab Gandhi soon, he is yet to finalize the other stars.

Hrithik attended friend's wedding
October 16, 2008
Hrithik flew back to Mumbai to attend his childhood friend's wedding.
Hrithik Roshan packed up the schedule of Kites in New Mexico, and rushed to Mumbai for his childhood friend Suraj Bhalla's marriage to Priti Sahijwani. Roshan Jr flew back along with his family on Saturday night and hosted a party for Suraj and his fiance Priti at Aurus in Juhu as reported ('Yaara Da Roshan'; HiTLIST, July 23).
A source reveals, "Hrithik was shooting in New Mexico for over a month, but made arrangements for the party long-distance. He deputed a team to take care of various aspects. Invitations were sent via invitation cards and SMS. Hrithik landed on Saturday and the bash was on Sunday night."
Sussanne, dressed in a black gown, was the perfect hostess. Hrithik looked smashing in faded black jeans and black coat, white shirt and scarf. Among the many gifts they lavished on the couple was a bottle of Dom Parignon and a huge box of Patchi chocolates.
The source continues, "The mehendi ceremony which took place on Monday had Hrithik charm the party with his moves to songs like Dil Naa Diya and Krazzy 4. Also present were Goldie Behl and Kunal Kapoor who too joined in the jhatkas and matkas." Sussanne Roshan and Sonali Bendre were seen mingling with the crowd and applauding their hubbies when they were on the dance floor.
Hrithik's miraculous recovery after a bad fall
October 12, 2008
DNA reports that Hrithik is back shooting Kites after knee injury.
Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan has hurt his knees once again, this time while doing a dangerous car stunt for home production "Kites" in Las Vegas. Though doctors advised him eight weeks rest, the brawny actor was about and running just three days after the accident.
"I hurt myself while jumping from a car. It looked really bad. The doctor said my knee would require eight weeks of healing. He said I'd be limping on crutches for at least two weeks," Hrithik tosaid. A source said: "All hell broke loose and there was panic. Hrithik was in considerable pain and unable to move. And since there was just a few days' shooting left director Anurag Basu wondered what to do."
But three days after the injury Hrithik had a miraculous recovery. "I don't know how it happened. On the third day after the accident I was running on my injured knee. So it's all fine," said Hrithik. In December 2007, after wrapping up "Jodhaa-Akbar", he went to Singapore for six weeks treatment.
Commenting upon his knee problem and the recent accident, the source said: "It's a fact that Hrithik's knee is a cause for great concern for him and for his entire family. The doctors told him that he would never dance again.
"After his second son was born (May 1), Hrithik went for surgery to the US and spent nearly two months recovering. He was determined to let it heal properly because 'Kites' requires considerable athletic movement. Hrithik didn't take one wrong step until he left to shoot 'Kites' in the US."

Hrithik injured again
October 9, 2008
DNA reports that Hrithik has injured his ankle while filming Kites in Las Vegas. Las Vegas Sun has a photo of Barbara Mori in action during the shooting of the movie.
While shooting for his home production Kites in Las Vegas in the US, Hrithik Roshan tore a ligament on his ankle. The injury occurred on the same leg on which he had suffered a 10 cm ligament tear (on the knee) while shooting for Krrish. Hrithik had flown off to Singapore for treatment. Later he came back to do an item number for their home production Krazzy 4 subsequent to which his injury worsened.
A source from Vegas who witnessed the entire action was stunned to see Hrithik continuing work despite the injury. "A doctor was rushed to the sets immediately when Hrithik yelped in pain. The doctor told him that he needed to rest and could not continue shooting," says the source. However that being the last day of the shoot, Hrithik went ahead and finished his portions.
The source also adds, "We thought the Los Angeles leg of the shooting would be cancelled especially with his dad Rakesh Roshan being the producer. But Hrithik is a true trooper and continued shooting with his ankle all strapped up."
Incidentally, wife Susanne and kids Hrehaan and Hridaan have flown to the US to be with their father.
Kites brings out Hrithik's sensuous side
October 1, 2008
IBN has an update on Kites, cast and crew will shoot in Los Angeles for eight days starting Oct 3 and return to Mumbai on Oct 12.
Hrithik Roshan sizzles with Latin actress Barbara Mori in Kites. The film by Anurag Basu is being touted as featuring the Bollywood superhero's most sensuous role till date. "The two sizzle together. This is Hrithik's most sensuous film to date. The accent here is not only on his dancing but on his ability to generate sensuality which has so far remained largely under wraps, the chemistry with Aishwarya Rai in Dhoom 2 notwithstanding. In Kites, Basu has shot another more sensuous side of Hrithik," said a source close to the film.
According to sources, the scenes between Hrithik and Barbara were so intimate and sensuous that Rakesh Roshan would gently be asked to leave the set. The Roshans are not talking about the film's sensuous theme and scenes, but Roshan Sr does inform that all is smooth sailing with Kites. "We are on schedule. After finishing shooting in New Mexico on Sep 12, we've shifted to Las Vegas. From here we'll relocate for the last lap of the US shooting to Los Angeles on Oct 3. We're returning to Mumbai on Oct 12," Rakesh Roshan told IANS.
However, there was change of guard in the crew. Cinematographer Bobby Singh opted out of "Kites", but Hrithik claims there was no ill-will involved in the changeover. "It was an amicable split. Now Ayananka Bose is doing it," Hrithik said. Ayananka, who was a former assistant to the well-known cinematographer Ravi Chandran, had shot Yash Raj Films' "Jhoom Barabar Jhoom". The change, says Hrithik, has made no difference to the project.
"We shifted earlier this week to Las Vegas as per plan. We're now here in Vegas for a month. Then we shoot in Los Angeles for eight days. After that we're done," said Hrithik. Kangana Ranaut, who plays the female lead in "Kites", has just joined the Roshans and her favourite director Anurag Basu in Vegas. After working with Kangana in "Gangster - A Love Story" and "Life... in a Metro", Basu strongly recommended the actress to the Roshans who liked what they saw.
