'Kiss'a Dhoom ka
January 31, 2007
Rakhi Sawant wants to act with Hrithik, she said, "I loved Dhoom:2 and the kiss between Ash and Hritik was just sensational. I don't know why it's being made into such a big deal. I am a huge Hrithik fan and have performed with him on numerous shows. He and Sussanne are the sweetest people anyone can ever meet. I would love to do even a small role in his film."

A look at the luxury cottages that have been built especially for Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai at Karjat, on the sets of Jodha Akbar

Art director Nitin Desai has created luxurious cottages for Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai at his studio in Karjat because director Ashutosh Gowariker wants his stars to stay at the studio rather than commute from Mumbai every day. Nitin talks about the cottages.

Hrithik and Ashutosh stayed last night
Hrithik's 1600 sq feet cottage has all amenities. "I have installed a full-fledged gymnasium inside his house, with the latest equipment which he uses in his personal gym," says Nitin. The two-bed room cottage has a modular kitchen. "Hrithik has got his cook along from Mumbai. The kitchen has a microwave oven, refrigerator, cooking oven and food processor. It's a mini-kitchen, but sufficient for one person. Hrithik loves pasta and other continental food, so the fridge is always well-stocked with all the necessary ingredients," says Nitin.

Hrithik loves watching action films
Nitin has also installed a plasma television set in the living room, and the colour of the wall is chocolate brown, which is Hrithik's favourite colour. "We have installed a dish TV which airs nearly 300 channels. Hrithik loves watching news and game shows. I have also gifted him a few of his favourite action films," says Nitin. Incidentally, Hrithik is considering getting along his son and Susanne to the cottage over the weekend. "Hrithik is an early riser and utilises the extra time to go for walks. I have a snooker table for him and a private swimming pool too," he says.

Ash didn't want to travel
"Nitinji it took me more than an hour to reach your studio from Bandra," Aishwarya said to Desai on the first day of the shoot. Now the second schedule of Jodha Akbar has begun and Ash has a similar cottage for her too. "The interior of her room is completely different. I have used soft colours for the living room and given her a shining gold bedroom, which will make her feel like Jodhabai even when she is not shooting," says Nitin. "Ash is very fond of romantic films and I have given her about 3000 DVDs. Yesterday, she watched Gone With The Wind," he says. Aishwarya has a room for her costumes and jewellery used in the film, where she can conduct discussions with her designers too.

Hrithik lends his cook to Ash sometimes
Hrithik's cook seems to be over-working and does not seem to be complaining. He is preparing meals for Aishwarya too. "Ash loves homemade food, and will get her own cook along soon. But in the meanwhile Hrithik's cook is making subzi, dal and roti for her," says Nitin.

Johnny Depp may stay in Hrithik's cottage later
Incidentally, Mira Nair contacted Nitin Desai for the Mumbai schedule of her film Shantaram, which stars Johnny Depp. If everything goes as per plan, the house designed for Hrithik will have Johnny Depp residing in it later. "I can't confirm this," he says. "It's true that Mira wants to shoot in my studio with Johnny," he says.

Jodhaa Akbar to release on Oct 12
January 30, 2007
Shooting of Jodhaa Akbar is expected to wrap up next month and the movie will be released on October 12. Director Ashutosh Gowarikar talks about his leading actors

Shooting for Ashutosh Gowarikar's 'Jodha-Akbar' is expected to be over next month and the long awaited film, that the director insists is not a 'remix version' of 'Mughal-e-Azam', will be released Oct 12. 'That's the Eid week. We're looking at a cross-culture of audiences to come for the film,' says the 'Lagaan' and 'Swades' director.'Swades' wasn't a huge success. 'But ultimately it reached out to the right people... You know, we're going through a 're-mix phase' in music and cinema. We need to get over that. It will soon go away and a new order will emerge. Let me reiterate, 'Jodha-Akbar' isn't a 'remix version' of 'Mughal-e-Azam'.'

'Jodha-Akbar', starring Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai, is Ashutosh's most expensive film. 'Our budget is Rs.37 crores. But my co-producer Ronnie Screwvala and I aren't looking at the budget as a responsibility. Between us we've worked out the financial details, including what is required in production and marketing.' Aishwarya and Hrithik have undergone the most gruelling and rugged outdoor experience of their lives. But the horse riding and sword fencing were not entirely a shock.

'We had several sessions in Mumbai... lots of riding and sword-fighting lessons just so that they'd be attuned to their Mughal characters and know the right way of riding a horse or holding a sword. You know sword fencing is a very western concept, whereas the way the talwaar was used in the Mughal times was very different. 'I had got Hrithik and Ash accustomed to the body language and attitude of those times from beforehand. Now all they're doing is executing a vision they're already aware of,' says Ashutosh from his location in Rajasthan.

Is he worried by the utterly contemporary image of his lead pair in 'Dhoom 2'? 'Not at all! In 'Dhoom 2', they are Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai. In my film they are Akbar and Jodha. Their personas in 'Dhoom 2' are closer to what they really are. Not that I've changed their physicality. But audiences will see only the characters.' Ashutosh thinks Ash and Hrithik aren't only immensely good looking but also hugely talented.

'I've seen every single film of theirs from 'Kaho... Na Pyar Hai' and K'yun....Ho Gaya Na' to 'Dhoom 2'. They always show an easy adaptability to the requirements of every director. Be it 'Chokher Bali' or 'Raincoat' for Aishwarya or 'Mission Kashmir' and 'Fiza' for Hrithik, they've transformed in front of the camera. They're both intensely dedicated.' The diligent filmmaker is all praise for the pairing. 'Hrithik and Ash look really good together in my film. But the full impact will be discernable only when the film releases. The give-and-take between the two as they get into character is amazing.'

The film also stars Sonu Sood, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Suhasini Mulay and Raza Murad. The director is confident the audience will see exactly the vision in his mind. 'I'm working towards it. So far so good. You know, Akbar once decided to not hunt a cheetah because he fell in love with it. Instead he got it to be trained and put next to him in the Diwan-e-Khas. But because of the animal-rights rule I can't have this shown on screen.

'That's the kind of bearable compromise I'll have to make. But I'm sticking to the authentic vision as much as possible. But I want the Golden Period of the Mughal Empire to look as glamorous as possible.'

Don't you dare!
January 30, 2007
Sonu Sood, Hrithik's co-star in Jodhaa Akbar has a three year old son who is addicted to the stunts in Krrish and practising them at home. The worried father told Hrithik about it and Hrithik had to explain to the kid about the dangerous stunts but the kid still doesn't believe him, guess Hrithik will have to show him how it's really done.

Hrithik Roshan would never have known that Krrish would continue to keep him on his toes almost a year after its release. Recently when Hrithik was shooting for Ashutosh Gowarikar's Jodha Akbar in Jaipur with co-actor Sonu Sood he was informed by the latter that his son Ishaan is an ardent fan of Krrish and that he tries to perform Hrithik's daring stunts when no one is around.

After watching the film, three-year-old Ishaan got addicted to the stunts and started practising them at home. "He would try to fly like Hrithik and pretend to jump from a skyscraper. We tried to explain to him that it was dangerous. But he is too young to understand," says Sonu.

However, during a break in the shooting, when the two actors were exchanging notes on their sons, Sonu told Hrithik about Ishaan's obsession with stunts. "When I told him about Ishaan's stunts, he was extremely worried. He immediately asked to speak to Ishaan over the phone and warned him how dangerous these stunts can be, if tried out at home," says Sonu.

However, even after being explained the technicalities of stunts, by none other than Krrish himself, Ishaan refused to let go of his romantic notions. "My son would play all the stunt sequences in slow motion and tell me, 'Show me the cable'," says Sonu. "He is too small to understand details about cables and the superimposition of shots, I guess."

Hrithik is a complete star
January 30, 2007
In an interview with actor Mithun Chakraborty, he says Hrithik is a complete star. Thanks to Yashika for the tip.

Who will sustain is hard to say. In my time, stardom was important and we were not allowed to do do many character roles. It was important to have an image like a Dharmendra or a Vinod Khanna or a Amitji or a Shatrughan Sinha. Image was very important. Today, the scene has changed. The hero does various character roles and he is accepted. I feel Hrithik Roshan is a complete star, the way he dances and acts, he is very good. Superstardom is a combination of everything – personality, performance, charisma that makes people turnaround and makes it look BIG and Hrithik has all of these characteristics.

No rivalry with Hrithik: SRK
January 25, 2007
Mumbai Mirror has an article about the coming wax statue of Shah Rukh Khan at Madame Tussauds which also contains a quote from SRK.

I think it is a little silly to compare people. As for my rivalry with Mr Bachchan, it is nonexistent and to bring up this issue is embarrassing. I have had such so-called problems even with Hrithik Roshan, Yash Chopra, Ajay Devgan, Salman Khan. And these are as fake as fake can be."

Bend it like Bollywood

Hrithik's trainer talks about Hrithik's workout routine and diet.

Satyajit Chourasia aka Satya: Trainer with Barbarian Gym trains Hrithik at his residence
Body type: Hrithik has a different body with strong muscles and good muscle definition, which is rare. One can see the cuts on his body very clearly.
Workout routine: He's always enthusiastic about his workouts and devotes one to two hours every day. Half the month he follows a heavy workout where as the other fifteen days it's a light to medium workout with Super Settings, concentrating on biceps and triceps and Circuit Training routines alternately.
Diet: His diet includes very little carbohydrates at night. (One roti with liquids and egg whites or roasted meat/poultry). A good breakfast is very important which consists of four egg whites, cereal with a cup of skimmed milk and fruits (apple or papaya).

The visual treat in Jodha Akbar
January 25, 2007
Indiafm has a picture from Jodha Akbar set, no not of Hrithik or Ash but canons. DNA has another set report

This royal set has been designed by none other than renowned art director Nitin Desai. After Dhoom 2 Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya will be seen once again in Jodha Akbar which is one of the big budget movies of the 2007. The set that resembles a massive fort from the Mughal era has been created in ND (Nitin Desai) studios at Karjat.

The whole set up has its own grace as the studio has turned into a lavish royal fort. There are some huge canons standing outside the fort. Most of artists were dressed in turbans and long sherwanis while women wearing Mughlai traditional costumes with dupattas were floating around. It seems Jodha Akbar will be a complete visual treat for the audience.

The man who made Hrithik dance
January 24, 2007
An interview with Shiamak Davar where he talks about working with Hrithik in Dhoom 2

Did you expect to win the trophy this year?
'Dhoom again…' had a huge potential for dance. There was a lot of scope for rhythm, style and fresh steps. And when Adi (Aditya Chopra) asked me to choreograph the title track for his film, he left it to me to do it my way. It is gratifying that whenever he wants something diverse and novel, he chooses me. It had me excited and I took up the song immediately, mainly because it featured Hrithik Roshan. We have never worked in a film together though we have done a lot of stage shows.

There's no doubt that Hrithik is a marvelous dancer, but as a choreographer who made Madhuri Dixit dance to his tune in DTPH, what did you think of the actor's dancing abilities during the shoot?
Madhuri is all grace and she cannot be compared with anyone. But Hrithik is the best dancer we have in films today. He is simply fantastic in whatever he does. The guy is like a machine, a robot that can do anything. He picked up my steps so well that I was mystified by his flexible and agile body movements. He becomes the dance and not the dancer. Once he got into the grid, we made a wonderful team and delivered a very high quality product. As a choreographer I believe that the body is a temple, respect it and it will bless you.

You think he did justice to your steps?
Completely. My choreography was at its best in 'Dhoom again…' because of Hrithik. I would say Hrithik is our answer to Hollywood actors today. Adi, who was certain that I would win awards for this song, tells me that people are going back to the theatres only to see it again. Isn't that incredible?

What did you think of 'Dhoom again…' when you heard it for the first time?
As the song was being played, I felt each instrument was telling me something. The piano had something to say. The strings were talking to me, the violins, the drums; each instrument was conversing with me. I tried to interpret what they were saying and I had worked out the movements in my mind. It you notice, my dance steps are very simple but with a lot of grace in the movements. Hrithik dancing to my steps made grace in the movements. Hrithik dancing to my steps made all the difference to a beautiful song.

No problem with JA shooting
January 23, 2007
Siddharth Roy Kapur of UTV denies that there's a shooting problem for Jodhaa Akbar saying that it's progressing smoothly

Has the shooting of Jodhaa Akbar come to a standstill? That's what a section of the media wants us to believe. There's talk that Hrithik Roshan has injured himself, while Aishwarya Rai is busy with personal commitments, resulting in the Karjat shooting of the film going haywire. "Not true," Siddharth Roy Kapur of UTV denies it outright, "The shooting is progressing smoothly. There could've been a cancellation of a day or two, but it happens with every film." The gossip mills have also hinted that Hrithik and Ash's shots are being canned separately. "They have individual sequences and there are combination shots as well. The fact that the two actors are participating in the ongoing schedule should silence the doubters," Siddharth adds. The ongoing schedule in Karjat should wrap up a major chunk of the film, Kapur adds. Hope this clarification puts an end to rumors!

Hrithik grows a moustache
January 22, 2007
A short blurb from TOI epaper regarding Hrithik's look on Jodha Akbar

After receiving rave reviews for Dhoom 2, Hrithik Roshan is heading towards yet another milestone in his career. And this time it's a role of a life time, that of Emperor Akbar that he's portraying in Ashutosh Gowarikar's mega epic Jodha Akbar. And to give himself a more authentic royal look, Hrithik will be spotted with a moustache in the film. From his muscular look in Dhoom 2 to the royal look, Hrithik seems to be giving perfectionist Aamir some tough competition!

Suitable style
January 21, 2007
Fashion designers talk about dressing the stars in Bollywood films.

"When I work on a film, I ignore the actors' real lives," says Adjania. "So Dhoom 2 was a reinvention of style. It was also the first time I worked with Hrithik Roshan. Hrithik's clothes have always fitted like second skin, he's always had every strand of hair in its place. I felt I needed to chill his look a bit, so I gave him a slightly grunge look." The look worked. While the entire cast of Dhoom 2 stunned everyone with their highly stylised, super sexy look, it was Hrithik - no slouch in any case in the sexiness department - who made the female portion of the audience swoon.

Jodha Akbar shooting continues from Jan 23
January 20, 2007
Ashutosh Gowariker is not too happy with Ash's engagement but the new schedule for Jodha Akbar shooting will start in full swing from January 23.

After the release of YashRaj Film’s Dhoom:2, Ashutosh Gowariker was over the moon about his decision to cast Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai in Jodha Akbar (produced by UTV). Their superb chemistry made his film’s prospects very rosy. Today, however, Gowariker is extremely miffed with his leading lady and is making no bones about it on the sets of Jodha Akbar in Karjat, where the film has started rolling for a new schedule.

The change in Gowariker’s frame of mind is courtesy Ash and Abhishek Bachchan’s impending marriage. When the buzz about their impending shaadi started trickling in, an uneasy Gowariker tried to get Ash to sign an agreement declaring she wouldn’t get married before the release of his film. But Ash somehow managed to ease his apprehensions and the cameras continued to roll.

On January 14, when the Bachchans and Rais revelled in the engagement celebration, Gowariker fumed. Says a source, “There is a lot of money riding on Jodha Akbar, and Ashutosh feels that the audience might not accept Ash and Hrithik in his film now that she is getting married. Hence, he did not want her to get married before Jodha Akbar releases. But now, there is little he can do about it.”

Gowariker’s displeasure said it all, when the actress returned to the set a day after the engagment. There was no warm welcome or good wishes from the director, the unit or her co-stars. The source further adds, “When Ash reached Karjat to shoot with him on January 15 (a day after her engagement), no one even congratulated her or asked her about her engagement. It was a very normal day of shoot as if nothing had happened.”

The actress shot only for a day and returned to Mumbai. She will rejoin the cast and crew when the new schedule starts in full swing from January 23. Whether Ashutosh’s fears are justified, only time will tell.

Liplock scene axed in Dhoom 2
January 20, 2007
Those going to see Dhoom 2 (in India) will not see the kissing scene in the movie. According to reports, the Bachchans family had asked Yash Raj Films to cut the scene after Abishek and Ash engagement was announced last week. Hopefully it is included in the DVD, it was beautifully done and it's a shame to see it cut in the DVD.

Hrithik mention
January 20, 2007
Hrithik is mention in a separate interview with Miss India World-2005 Sindura Gadde and Bipasha Basu

Who's your heartthrob in Bollywood?
It has to be Hrithik Roshan certainly. He is just amazing. He is a very talented actor and in my view he has taken Bollywood to the next level. It's not just about his acting and looks but his overall personality that makes him my perfect choice in Bollywood.

-----------------
Bipasha admitted that Dhoom 2 was entirely Hrithik's show. Actress Bipasha Basu, who played a double role in the 2006 sequel of Dhoom, Dhoom 2, admitted that the movie was entirely Hrithik Roshan's show. "We were all aware that Hrithik was the whole and soul of the film. Luckily, there was no resentment. He worked so hard that no one could grudge his success," she said.

D2 at the box office
January 19, 2007
Dhoom 2 is still doing well at the box office this week

'Dhoom 2' continues to do good business as it is still finding a loyal audience for itself. In its 7th week, the film did a business of close to 2 crores and brought the overall collections to 83.5 crores. All set to cross the 85 crore mark in the near future, any film that would challenge the box office performance of 'Dhoom 2' would now have to design itself as a 100 crores earner. Now that's the new box office parameter for one and all.

Hrithik back in Delhi 6 again?
January 17, 2007
According to Indiafm, Hrithik has agreed to do Rakeysh Mehra's Delhi 6.

Rakeysh Mehra has been hunting for the right actor to play the lead in his upcoming project Delhi 6. First, he approached Abhishek Bachchan, then Hrithik Roshan. Since both of them refused to take up the part, owing to their busy schedule, Mehra turned to Akshay Kumar.

Akshay, who was shooting in Sydney then, refused to take up the part. However, a source said that Akshay had not even been approached for that part, as the script demanded someone much younger than him. And finally, rumours of Rakeysh Mehra approaching Hrithik once again are taking the rounds! Reportedly, Hrithik has agreed to do the film. But that is provided Rakeysh incorporates the changes he has suggested.

As sources have it, Mehra met Hrithik again last week to discuss the script once again. There were certain segments in the script Hrithik was happy with. So Mehra was obliged to make those changes, after which Hrithik finally gave him the green signal. Hrithik, who already has two movies this year- Kismat Talkies and Jodhaa Akbar, has yet another project in his kitty now. Delhi 6 is speculated to go on floors by the end of this year.

Hrithik - His Own Leader, His Own Guide
January 15, 2007
Movie Talkies has written a special article to celebrate Hrithik's birthday

January 10 has always been a very special day for the Roshan family. It is the day Hrithik, the grand son of one of the greatest but entirely low profile music director, Roshan and the son of actor turned director Rakesh Roshan was born. January 10 is Hrithik Roshan's birthday . The times have changed. Roshan has not lived to see the success of his son Rakesh as a filmmaker and more sadly he has not lived to see the heights his grand son has reached. He should have been alive to see all that has happened to his son and grand son who have done everything possible and even made the impossible possible and made his name " roshan" ( shining and famous ). The bouquets have been crowding " Il Palazzo", the posh apartment where Hrithik lived with wife Suzanne, there are new - new born son lived with Hrithik' s parents , Rakesh and Pinky. The telegrams and SMSes come in by the hundreds, hardly possible for one man to handle. The crowd outside keeps growing with every passing minute. Hrithik takes time off to wave out to them and the crowd (girls, specially) scream and swoon. They behave as if they have seen their best dream during day. All the radio stations and all the TV channels are going ga ga over the birthday of the young man who has been winning as if it was his birthright during the last decade.

Inside, Hrithik starts the day with a warm embrace from his wife and together they embrace their son. Hrithik seeks the blessings of his grand parents, Roshan and Irawati Roshan who passed away early last year. He then touches the feet of his parents and the celebrations begin. Hrithik has decided to have a very quiet birthday with his family as a tribute to his late grand mother. But, he is Hrithik, the heartthrob of the millions. It is difficult for a man like him to have a quiet birthday however hard he tries. He lives in the hearts of those who have given him a place which they will not allow him to leave, come what may.

He has to live up to their dreams and expectations. He tries his best to. He has to. He realizes, a truth that says that once you are a star you just do not belong to yourself or your family but are a part of a very large family spread across the length and breadth of the country and the world.

Every birthday is a special birthday for Hrithik because the year that has gone by has been a very crucial and happy for him and his family. The year 2006 has been very special for him. It started with the birth of his son which brought his family endless joy. It was a special year for him because of the new life he received after a near fatal accident during the shooting of some daring scenes during the shooting of " Krrish". Any other actor in his place would have met with certain death but Hrithik proved to be the real hero when he walked out without a scratch and went back to shoot the same scene without making any fuss or noise or even a murmur about the whole incident which was, infact, a major calamity which sent shivers down the spines of all those who were present and witness the accident. Then came the release of "Krrish" and the unprecedented success of the film at the box office all over the world where Hindi films were seen. Even as he was basking in the glory of "Krrish" he started shooting for Ashutosh Gowariker's "Jodhaa Akhbar" in which he is playing the young Emperor Akhbar with Aishwarya as Jodhaa.

Then even as he was shooting for "Jodhaa Akhbar" there came a blast of a release in " Dhoom 2". His personality, his physique, his daring exploits, his dancing and his kissing scenes with Aishwarya made him suddenly stand up as the only competition to King Khan if he had to think of competition at all. Hrithik had finally proved that he was second to none.

His performance made even a maker like Shekhar Kapur sit up and say if there was any Indian actor who could take on any challenge from Hollywood, it was this man Hrithik, It was an opinion that was shared by filmmakers, critics and the common man alike.

The year also marked his creating history when he was the first Indian star who signed a three film contract with Adlabs for a price no Indian actor has ever demanded and got- 36 crores! Just days before his birthday he worked out a plan to shoot the three films in 2008,2009 and 2010. Hrithik has always been a very choosy actor but this birthday he has decided to become much more choosy and not fall for any price offered by any bidder or buyer of stars. He has his own goals marked out for him and he himself knows how to go about them. He is blessed to be his own leader and his own guide and he knows he does not need any other light to show him the way he wants to go and he has a very adventurous journey ahead.

When guests wished that Hrithik was on the menu
January 11, 2007
A report on Neeta Lulla's brunch that mentions Hrithik

Neeta Lulla's brunch in Mumbai turned out to be a mini Bollywood soiree of sorts, what with the who's who of the industry skipping their afternoon siesta and joining the designer in her celebrations. Hrithik and Sussanne Roshan walked in hand in hand, both sporting glares. Their entry at the brunch created such a frenzy that guests forgot all about the food. In fact, one guest even remarked that the most divine thing about the brunch was Hrithik and that she wished he was on the menu! Wishful thinking, we'd say!

Hrithik is an international star
January 10, 2007
Film maker Shekhar Kapur mention Hrithik in his recent interview

I saw 'Dhoom 2' and was swayed by the technical finesse that Hindi films have come up with. They are almost on par with international standards. The only thing I find lacking in them is, the lack of good and original subjects. And mark my words, India has an international star in Hrithik Roshan.

50 days of D2 and silver jubilee for Krrish
January 10, 2007
Dhoom 2 would be completing a successful 50 days run this Friday.

Released on 24th November' 06 across 700 cinemas all over India, the film has held quite well at the theatres and is continuing to do amazing business in spite of an erratic multiplex release up North. With a total in the upwards of 80 crores and still counting, the film has proved to be a Blockbuster and the biggest success story of 2006. Meanwhile Hrithik Roshan's Krrish has celebrated an extended run at the theatres and recently completed its Silver Jubilee. The film would be entering into its 30th week this Friday.

Sunaina's birthday gift to Hrithik
January 10, 2007
Sunaina's birthday gift to brother Hrithik is a pair of speakers for his gym. The Roshan family celebrated Hrithik's birthday last night because he had to leave for Karjat today for the shooting of Jodha Akbar.

It's Hrithik's Roshan birthday today and he has every reason to celebrate! Although he had only two releases last year, both Krrish and Dhoom 2 have propelled him to superstar status. What gifts has Hrithik received? "Mom and I have bought him a pair of speakers for his gym, which he wanted. As for Suzanne, I'm equally curious to know what she has in store for him," says sister Sunaina. However, we hear Bollywood's own James Bond will not be partying hard tonight. Rather, he leaves for Karjat this evening where he will stay for a month to shoot for Ashutosh Gowariker's Jodha Akbar. Says his sister Sunaina, " Hrithik couldn't juggle the dates of Jodha Akbar and will have to leave today. So we all went out for a family dinner to celebrate one night before his birthday."

'Hrithik will surely go to Hollywood'
January 10, 2007
Rakesh Roshan talks about birthday boy, Hrithik, saying that his son will surely go to Hollywood

As Hrithik Roshan turns 33, filmmaker father Rakesh Roshan talks about him: As the years are passing, I feel Hrithik is becoming a more and more responsible person. He has a family of his own and has started taking his own decisions in life. He doesn't tell me what he is doing in his life, and takes his own judgement. I don't get too involved in his life, and let him take his own decisions.

The year 2006 was one of the best for Hrithik after he gave two big hits, with Krrish and Dhoom 2. He has grown leaps and bounds, and is working very hard to keep it going. I feel he is going in the right direction and taking the right approach to life. I don't believe in number games, so I wouldn't like to say whether he is the number one star or the number two, but I would certainly say that Hrithik is a very dedicated actor. I have always maintained that a good actor is a good actor. If a film fails, then the good actor's fate also suffers with the film, and they cannot be blamed for it. Till date, Hrithik has put in a lot of effort to get into the skin of the character he's playing in his films.

There has been speculation by some media persons that Hrithik Roshan should be in Hollywood now, but I feel it is upto Hollywood to decide whether they want him or not. We in India may perceive him to be a great actor, but they have a different take on our films and our actors. I think he will surely go to Hollywood in future, but only if the right kind of subject comes to him.

He is not signing any films hastily, and is waiting for the right opportunity. Earlier he had his failures, and he has learnt a lot from them. As his father, I am always there for him. -- Syed Firdaus Ashraf

Happy Birthday Hrithik
January 10, 2007
Hey it's Hrithik's birthday today! he turns 33 today, however, he said he'll be working all day and night in Pune shooting Jodha Akbar. Also take a look at some of the predictions for Hrithik's future from the experts.

"No partying for me. I will be shooting near Pune for the whole day and the whole night," says Hrithik, adding, "After all, if I have to be consistent with my performances then I have to work hard." And it is with his focus on the future that Hrithik wants to start the 33rd year of his life. "At the same time, the past year has been a great one. An exciting one actually because most of my impossible dreams came true. I became the first Indian super-hero. In fact, I have been giving Hrehaan a Krrish ride in the house. But I am not carrying these victories into the next year. I am starting 2007 from zilch. I guess it should always be a fresh beginning."

Hrithik has also done a fair share of dancing this year. "Dhoom2 has made me dance a lot. So much so, at SRK's New Year bash, people made me do a jig on the Dhoom2 number innumerable times. In fact, I am quite tired of it now," says Hrithik with a smile. So, what is Hrtihik planning to gift himself on his birthday? "A wish that I deserve all the love and blessings that I have been getting so far."

Hrithik takes a plunge for 2007
January 8, 2007
Daboo Ratnani talks about Hrithik's shot for his 2007 Calendar which he says it's his favourite

This picture has not been made on Photoshop, he actually did it. Hrithik and I have wanted to do a picture like this for three years now. Whenever we would go to a beach location like Mauritius or Maldives for a shoot, we would want to do a picture whether he would be concentrating on an activity -- like reading or using a laptop -- and he would be sitting on a chair, which is tipping into the water and he does not even realise it.

Since water was the concept for my calendar this year, this was a good time to do it. We had taken a chair too. But this picture looked more dynamic and dangerous, so we preferred it. Hrithik carried about seven outfit changes with him, but we got it right in the first take itself, after a rehearsal.

The picture works because he continues to hold his expression till he touches the water. Later, he told me that had never concentrated on his board exams as much as he did for this shot. That's what makes him stand apart -- his hard work even for a photograph. He didn't get hurt. But he was afraid that he might get a water-slap on his face, which would make it go red. But he fell in such a way that his shoulder hit the water first. Everyone's first reaction was that this is Photoshop. But this has no cable work, no special effects.

Hrithik's High Noon
January 5, 2007
The Telegraph has an article about Hrithik and his success in 2006

Who shone the brightest in Bollywood this year? Who fired the biggest hits, bagged the maximum adulation and stormed and danced his way to the top of the heap in tinseltown? While giants like Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan remained locked in a bitter struggle for supremacy, the one who charged ahead of the pack was none other than Hrithik Roshan — our Bollywood Person of the Year.

Diehard fans of Shah Rukh and those who swear by the likes of Aamir Rang de Basanti Khan or the stubble-cheeked, hair-banded Abhishek Bachchan, will be disappointed. But any which way you look, Hrithik Roshan stood out as the actor who made the biggest impact in Bollywood this year. His film Krrish was far and away the biggest hit in 2006. Another Hrithik Roshan starrer, Dhoom 2, is also set to become one of the highest grossers of this year. The critics didn’t have too many good things to say about these films. But Hrithik the super hero (Krrish) and Hrithik the arch villain (Dhoom 2) caught the imagination of the audience. They kept coming back for more — even as you read this, the Dhoom 2 cash registers are ringing. The result: both the films Hrithik starred in have powered their way to the top of the Bollywood league table. What is also significant here is that the two films starring King Khan this year, Don and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (KANK), disappointed at the box office (although the overseas take of KANK was quite outstanding).

Again, though Hrithik plays a negative role in Dhoom 2, he outshines the hero (Abhishek Bachchan) completely. The recent GIFA awards in Malaysia saw him win the award for best actor for his role in Krrish. In fact, industry sources and critics believe that Hrithik will sweep all the awards ceremonies and walk off with the prize for best actor and best actor in a negative role for Krrish and Dhoom 2 respectively. If he is bringing home the bacon for the film maker and the producer, Hrithik Roshan is also on his way to becoming the highest paid actor in Bollywood. Recently, he signed a three-film contract with Adlabs for around Rs 30 crore. In other words, Hrithik’s per film fee is now Rs 10 crore. That’s a staggering figure and it’s more than what other Bollywood biggies are making at the moment. For example, both Shah Rukh and Aamir Khan charge about Rs 7-8 crore per film, while Akshay Kumar charges about Rs 5-7 crore. The first film under the Adlabs contract will roll out in 2008 after Hrithik completes his films with Ashutosh Gowariker (Jodha Akbar), Zoya Akhtar (Kismat Talkies) and Rakesh Roshan (Krrish sequel).

Hrithik, though, appears to be quite calm about all that’s happening in his life and about the fact that 2006 has been such an exceptionally bountiful year for him. “I have been through this success and adulation before. When someone is successful there are many who keep talking about it and try and flatter you. But there will be many more to pull you down if a film fails. So I just go on trying to better my performance. Krrish and Dhoom 2 have been received well. I am on a roll and thus the adulation. I am not overawed by it at all,” he says in a matter-of-fact manner.

But Hrithik knows that he really has arrived at last. After the runaway success of his debut film Kaho Naa Pyar Hai (2000), he delivered a string of flops like Mujhse Dosti Karoge, Aap Mujhe Achhe Lagne Lage, Na Tum Jaano Na Hum, etc. He looked in danger of becoming another Kumar Gaurav, a one-film wonder who shone briefly, sputtered, and then died out. But in 2003, dad Rakesh Roshan came out with Koi Mil Gaya, a sort of Forrest Gump meets ET, and Hrithik, who played the lead role of a simple-minded young man, has not looked back since.

So is Hrithik really on his way to becoming Bollywood’s hero No 1, leaving behind, dare we say it, such mega stars as Shah Rukh Khan? Karan Johar, who has worked with both Shah Rukh Khan as well as Hrithik Roshan, directing them together in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, would not like to go quite so fast. “There’s a 10-year age difference between them. Shah Rukh is a much more senior actor. Hrithik is more of a student compared to Shah Rukh. But he learns fast and is building up his own style of performance, while Shah Rukh already has his own method. I think Hrithik is absorbing a lot and doing very well too,” says Johar. Priyanka Chopra, who has acted with both Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan in Krrish and Don respectively, also points to the difference between the two, although she naturally won’t say a word on who’s the better actor. “Hrithik Roshan is a very dedicated actor. Shah Rukh Khan will keep teaching you something,” she says.

While Chopra maintains a diplomatic stance vis a vis Hrithik and Shah Rukh, Sanjay Gadhvi, the director of the Dhoom series says that it is Hrithik Roshan’s ability to work hard that puts him way ahead of the rest. “Many people told me that Hrithik overshadowed Abhishek in the film and that it wasn’t right,” says Gadhvi. “But the villain is supposed to be bigger and smarter than everyone else in this film. And Hrithik outstripped everyone with his performance.”

Indeed, if there is one thing that characterises Hrithik Roshan the actor, it is the hard work that he puts into portraying his character. Says father Rakesh Roshan, “He takes his work very, very seriously. He sits and works on the details of his looks, his style, his clothing and the script and, of course, the nuances of his performance. His success this year is just the fruit of his efforts.”

His colleagues too endorse that view. Ask stunt director Vic Armstrong who worked with Hrithik Roshan in Dhoom 2 and came away impressed with the actor’s dedication. “I have worked with the best in the world. And I would put him on a par with Hollywood stars like Tom Cruise and Harrison Ford. He fears nothing and is ready to take on any challenge,” says Armstrong.

When he was shooting one of the stunt scenes in Krrish, Hrithik suffered a near fatal fall. But he was ready for the next shot in no time at all. It is this ability to keep going no matter what that has brought Hrithik Roshan to the top. Will he stay there? Watch this space in 2007.

'Hrithik is doing my film'
January 5, 2007
Zoya Akhtar confirms in an interview that Hrithik will star in her film Kismet Talkies.

Following reports that Hrithik Roshan was not happy with director Zoya Akhtar’s script and had asked her to rework it, a miffed Zoya says, “That’s news to me.” In fact, Hrithik in an earlier interview to Mumbai Mirror had said, “Zoya’s script is out of the world and I am looking forward to start working in the film.” However, a rumour has been doing the rounds that Hrithik is slightly uncomfortable because Zoya has signed Kareena Kapoor as the female lead, despite knowing that they had a falling-out a couple of years ago.

“Hrithik is a very professional actor and he would not interfere in the casting of a film. He has agreed to do the film for Zoya, with or without Kareena,” says a source close to the actor. Hrithik and Farhan share an amazing chemistry and they are close buddies. “Zoya is like family for Hrithik and he would never ditch her at the last moment,” adds the source. When we asked Zoya about Hrithik being unhappy with the final script she laughed it off saying, “I don’t know where all this information comes from. I think I should know, before anyone, that Hrithik is not doing my film. When he has not spoken to me about this, I assume he is doing my film.”

There has been much speculation about the film, which Zoya will start shooting this year. To a report that Hrithik is delaying the project because he has lost interest in the film, Zoya says, “The film has been delayed not because of Hrithik, but because we have been working about the pre-production.”

In fact, Hrithik is very much in touch with Zoya and they will soon start the project. “Hrithik has been working round the clock for Ashutosh Gowariker’s Jodha-Akbar and it has been a while since he has been in Mumbai. Now Gowariker will shoot the indoor segment of the film in Nitin Desai’s studio, so Hrithik will get some time to spend with his family,” reveals the source. -- Ram Kamal Mukherjee

Sanjay Gadhvi talks D2
January 5, 2007
Director Sanjay Gadhvi talks about Dhoom 2 and why Dhoom is a cult film

When I had conceived Aryan's (Hrithik's) character, he was not a thief who steals to become wealthy. He does it purely for the adrenaline rush. He is a rich boy who has lost his parents at a young age. He has always got A grades in school and has done a course in computer engineering. He is a well-travelled linguist, a connoisseur of wines, a man hugely into adventure sports.

"Why do I think does the audience identify with these larger-than-life characters? I think, my characters may sound larger than life but they don't sound incredulous and unreachable. Hrithik in my film is not Krrish who is leaping from building to building, he has made a remote-controlled mini-car; he has disguised himself as a statue after coating himself with white paint. His actions are within the realm of reality. "So, while I did incorporate characters who were young and ideas which were new, I was confident that their appeal would cross all age barriers.

Hrithik in Dhoom 3?
January 3, 2007
Hindustan Times reports that Aditya Chopra plans to cast Shah Rukh Khan as a villain and Aamir Khan as the policeman in Dhoom 3 and added that Hrithik will also be a part of the project, although in a small role. "Adi wants to make it a multi-starrer. It all depends on how the script shapes up but he's definitely keen on pairing both the Khans together for the first time and also Hrithik Roshan," says the source. Guess we just have to wait and see.

Enter the Dhoomer

Rediff takes a look at who rocked at what in 2006 while DNA thinks that both SRK and Hrithik will be the Superstar of 2007

The actor with the best introduction scenes in 2006
Hrithik Roshan, Krrish and Dhoom 2
Krrish gave Bollywood a superhero; Dhoom 2 made a star mega. Be it saviour or troublemaker, Hrithik Roshan was the man. His undeniable screen presence, sweltering sexuality and vulnerable expressions made him a perfect candidate for attractive long shots and lingering close-ups. It is hardly surprising then that the star gets the best introduction scenes. You just cannot ignore those rippling muscles as he runs with all his might in Krrish. Or jumps off a parachute onto a running train in Namibia for his larger-than-life entry for Dhoom 2. -- Rediff

The competition seems to have got stiffer among Bollywood's band of boys — the Khans and Hrithik Roshan. However, public opinion seems to tilt towards the light-eyed super hero Hrithik. For us it is both SRK and Hrithik Roshan. With 'KBC 2', the star who lives in the palatial Mannat in Bandra, will visit the homes of his fans—from skyscrapers to slums—each night. SRK's popularity could only get wider and wilder! Greek God Hirthik Roshan, juxtaposing the classic 'Jodhaa Akbar' with the contemporary 'Krrish', would surely be India's pride and the world's envy. -- DNA

I bet my money on…
January 1, 2007
Mumbai Mirror takes a look at 2007 and has this to say about Hrithik and Jodha Akbar

Hrithik Roshan had a glorious 2006, and seems poised to rise more in the upcoming year. From wooing kids in Krrish, to getting girls to drool with his macho act in Dhoom 2, he has proved his versatility once again. In fact Hrithik has set a new yardstick of what takes to be a star. His near-perfect body, stallion-like movements and inherent rhythm, send warning signals to other heroes to pull up their socks. Hrithik moves into the period film genre in 2007 withAshutosh Gowariker's Jodha-Akbar. Will he outshine the rest in this costume drama too? We're sure he will.

Jodha Akbar
Director: Ashutosh Gowariker
Expected: October
A fictional romance, full of valour from the Mughal palace, much like Mughal-e-Azam, in its basic idea. Hrithik Roshan is the young emperor Akbar; Aishwarya Rai the Rajput princess he courts. The premise in itself works at the level of secular love, a much needed statement. Contemporary films set in the same period though have not been much to write home about. Yet, we await this one for Ashutosh Gowariker's recent filmography, which lists Lagaan, Swades. Whatever next, should be watched once. Of course many will look forward to Jodha-Akbar for Hrithik alone.

Fanaa and Hrithik are winners at RS awards
January 1, 2007
Hrithik tops Radiosargam's Top 5 Bollywood Actors of 2006. He has also won two RS Awards, Best Actor and Best Actor in a Villainous Role, for Krrish and Dhoom 2 respectively.

For an actor who has oodles of talent and on-screen magic, one is made to believe that acting comes to him naturally in the same manner as his breath-taking stunts and jaw-dropping dance moves. The man can twist and turn and whirl for his audience and give their heart a skip of a beat with his air-borne stunts and magical green eyes. The mesmeriser was at his best with his super-cool thief act in Dhoom 2. He gave the Indian audiences their very own super-hero and the hope of sighting Bollywood among the best in the world. Hrithik not just rocks, he roles, does a salsa and even a tequila in the beautiful city of Rio de janeiro in Brazil and perfects his every move both as a clever thief and a saviour of the world. The fabulous actor tasted mega success this year as his home production Krrish earned a whopping 68 Crores and Yash Raj Films' Dhoom 2 continues its record breaking spree at the box office. The man is not just the best but is slowly inches closer in becoming the biggest product of Bollywood ever. Hats off to you Mr. A!

Hrithik loves his Chandni
January 1, 2007
No there's no other woman in his life, it's the name of the horse that Ashutosh wants Hrithik to bond with for Jodha Akbar. Hrithik has been riding Chandni, a white horse, while Ash's black beauty is called Baadal and Sonu has settled for Ratan, a brown stallion.

Here’s some more dope from the sets of Jodha Akbar in Jaipur. Director Ashutosh Gowariker, who is presently filming the war sequence, has coaxed Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai and Sonu Sood to befriend their respective horses. So it’s not unusual to see the stars taking morning walks with or feeding their four-legged friends these days. A reliable source from the unit informs, “Apart from horse riding lessons, the actors have been asked to develop a bond with their horses. We can’t have the horse trainers in the frame while filming, so it’s better that the actors handle the animals themselves.”

So how do the actors bond with the four-legged beauties? Apparently, the actors have been carrying carrots, biscuits and gram in their pockets. “The actors are present during the morning feed. Also, they feed the horses with their own hands,” says the source. Hrithik has been riding Chandni, a white horse, while Ash’s black beauty is called Baadal and Sonu has settled for Ratan, a brown stallion.

A month-long horse training camp at the Mahalaxmi racecourse preceded the Jaipur schedule of the film. However, Ash didn’t attend the camp and is catching up on her lessons now. Says a unit member, “Ash is not new to horse riding. She says she’s done it before. As for Hrithik and Sonu, they’re at ease with their horses now. In fact, both of them are in love with their horses!”

Gowariker has acquired 250 horses, 150 camels and 100 elephants for the lavish war sequences. We hear special outfits have been designed for the animals representing the side they belong to on the battlefield. Says a unit member, “The Mughal horses have grey uniforms. On the other hand, the Rajput horses sport orange and green colours. The helpers usually get them dressed and march them out in a row every morning.”

Top 5 Jodis of 2006
January 1, 2007
Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai voted hottest pair in 2006. Thanks to Prasansa for the tip.

As if there was any doubt this was the best jodi of the year 2006. Hrithik and Aishwarya is not only the best jodi of this year, but they might be one of the best jodis of all time. Granted they have only done one film together, but after watching them emit electricity on screen in Dhoom 2, producers will be lining up to sign them two together. They already have Jodha-Akbar coming up next year, which has the public waiting in a tizzy to watch tinsel town's new numero uno jodi on screen yet again. Whether they were "checking each other out," or playing a game of basketball, or sharing a steamy kiss, it was all done with perfection. It doesn't hurt that they are easy on the eyes as well. They are also the best looking jodi apart from the best overall jodi. Dhoom 2 was the biggest hit of all time only because of their chemistry. Everyone knew they would look like a dream together on screen (except for Papa Roshan), but no one expected them to be so picture perfect and end up being one of the all time great couples. Few more projects together and we can make the argument for them being the greatest all time couple. Now if they keep doing at least one movie together every year, they will be a fixture at the top of this list every single one of those years.
