Shooting at strand-still
April 29, 2007
Hrithik stopped shooting of Jodhaa-Akbar when he realised that some errant strands of hair were marring Ash's look, for a close-up shot

Roshan is a perfectionist, and we have heard many stories about the actor's high level of professionalism. The actor recently set another example of being a stickler for details while shooting for Ashutosh Gowariker's Jodha Akbar with Aishwarya Rai. Hrithik stalled the shooting of a scene with Ash, who plays Jodhabai in the film, because he noticed that his co-star's hair wasn't just so.

According to a source from the unit, "It was a close-up shot between Hrithik and Aishwarya. Ashutosh gave the order for 'action' and settled down to look at the monitor. Suddenly, to everyone's surprise, Hrithik called 'cut'. No one knew why. He then asked Ash to call her hair stylist to fix the strands of hair which were falling on Ash's forehead."

"Hrithik is a perfectionist and when he realised that Ashutosh was taking a close-up shot, he knew the strands of hair on Ash's forehead would result in a continuity jerk. Aishwarya, who's yet another perfectionist, immediately called her hair stylist Kanta to fix her hair," adds the source. Hrithik and Ash finally gave the shot after Kanta fixed her hair. "Hrithik is extremely involved in Jodha Akbar and Ashutosh is very happy with his inputs. Hrithik remembers each and every detail of his as well as his co-stars' shots," says our source.

Jodha Akbar's unit has been shooting at Nitin Desai Studio in Karjat for two months now. "Ashutosh has worked on the film's script for nine years. So everyone expects it to be a flawless film," adds our source.

UTV and Ashutosh Gowariker will be screening the first promo of Jodhaa-Akbar at the Cannes Film Festival which starts from May 16-27.

"This is a big-budget film and Ronnie and Ashutosh wanted to tap the international market for it. Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai are big names in international market. Also, the film needs to be promoted abroad because period films are particularly in demand internationally," says our source. Jodha Akbar has elicited a lot of interest ever since it went on the floors. This will be the first time that Hrithik and Aishwarya will be seen in a period film. Currently, Ashutosh is shooting at Nitin Desai's studio in Karjat to wrap up the film. He is expected to complete the film before he leaves for the festival.

"The three-minute promo will give a sneak peak of the film. After Hrithik and Ash's great chemistry in Dhoom 2, people are looking forward to seeing them together in Jodha Akbar," says our source. Ash will be travelling with her in-laws and husband Abhishek to attend the Cannes Film Festival. "They will be holding a press conference followed by a grand party to interact with foreign media and distributors. This festival is considered to be the best platform to promote a film," says our source.

Anything for a fan
April 28, 2007
Story of how Hrithik called up a young fan one day.

If you thought stars don't have time for their fans, think again. Apparently, Hrithik is one actor who has a heart of gold in this case. There's a story about how a woman walked up to Rakesh Roshan at a function and told him how much her son admired Hrithik, even to the extent of praying that he too gets six fingers like his superstar idol. Senior Roshan immediately gave her Hrithik's number and asked her to call and make her son speak to Hrithik the next morning. What's more, the next morning the filmmaker went out of his way and called the young boy and handed the phone over to Hrithik. Imagine the young boy's joy when his idol advised him to drink a lot of milk, listen to his parents and call him up whenever he wanted, and told him he was welcome to come to Mumbai to meet him. Now even the young boy's dad is a die-hard fan of 'rockstar Hrithik'. Can we blame him?

Hrithik on top of I-T payers' list
April 28, 2007
TOI reports that Hrithik is the highest individual tax payer.

Even as Bollywood heartthrob Hrithik Roshan danced his way to the top of the charts in Bollywood, officials at the income tax department rubbed their hands with glee. At the end of the year, they knew, he would end up paying an exorbitant amount in taxes. They were right. At Rs 15.10 crore for 2006-07, he emerged as the highest individual tax payer. The star, sources said, charges in the region of Rs 2.5 crore for featuring in a movie.

Excerpts Koffee with Karan directors episode
April 21, 2007
More excerpts from Koffee with Karan directors episode which will air on April 22 at 9 pm on Star One and Star World.

Karan: What I find amazing is that most of us our younger film makers today … and you have been around as a film maker for over 20 years… and have been in the industry for over 37 years now… today you are in the panel of film makers who has made some of the youngest films in that respect… with all the visual effects it is one of India's first super hero films… you have done this at this age? Do you ever realize this?
Rakesh Roshan: I know… it was a difficult task… if you see in the Roshan family we have a producer - director… we have an actor … we have a music director in the family.. so we are four pillars of a film… so I thought if I don't take this step, who will… it's not a normal step… it was a leap… we could have fallen badly… and if I am making such a film… I must have the best technicians with me… so I went ahead and hired Tony Cheng from China… I got special effects people from Los Angeles… we spent a lot and worked on the minutest of details… I couldn't afford to lose any money… waste any money

Karan: What is your take Sir … you have been in this industry from more than two decades… and have given one of the biggest blockbusters?
Rakesh Roshan: I feel that the biggest critics are the audience… you should take them seriously and not the critics… they don't know anything about film making … I don't give them importance at all… I don't even read the reviews?

Karan: You don't
Rakesh Roshan: Not at all

Rakesh Roshan: Hrithik is not trying to prove that he can work without me
April 21, 2007
Rakesh Roshan talks about not working with son, Hrithik

After three super-duper hits, Rakesh Roshan and son Hrithik have parted ways, albeit temporarily- while Hrithik has already created dhoom with the biker sequel and is now busy with Ashutosh Gowarikar's Jodha Akbar, senior Roshan is now branching off on a film without beta. Are the two tired of each other? "No, I am not tired of working with Hrithik," laughs Rakesh Roshan.

"It is a pleasure working with Hrithik. He is such a fine actor. The thing is, he was busy with his schedule and I have his dates for January next year. So I had this whole year and I didn't want to waste it. I have a very capable assistant named Raja Sen. He's worked with me in three films and I thought it was time to let him direct one.

With both father and son doing films independently once again, detractors are once again claiming that Hrithik is trying to prove that he can work without dad. "I don't think in these terms at all," says Roshan. "I have made so many successful films in the past too. So that's not the criteria. Yes, father and son working together, we have given three big hits - but that's because we complement each other.

But I am not trying to prove that I can make it without my son, and Hrithik is not trying to prove that he can work without me. He is a good actor, and I know my job through experience." Is he apprehensive about Hrithik's performance in a period film? "I don't know anything about Jodha Akbar, but I know my son will do a fantastic job. It all depends on what kind of subject it is. I have full faith in Ashutosh Gowarikar."

White sand for Jodhaa-Akbar
April 20, 2007
Hrithik is back in Karjat to shoot Jodhaa-Akbar

Ashutosh Gowarikar is shooting in Karjat for his magnum-opus Jodhaa-Akbar, starring Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai, though presently only with Roshan, for obvious reasons. Recently 50 truckloads of white sand were ordered from Jaipur. The reason being given is that previously Ashutosh was shooting in Jaipur and the locales had predominantly whitish sand but now the scene has shifted to Karjat. Being a perfectionist Gowariker wanted continuity, in the scenes (specially in the long shots) as the present shooting venue has a different hue. As a result 50 trucks full of white sand were brought in from Jaipur and 65 workers were assigned the task of covering the whole ground with it, so as to give an impression that it was Jaipur.

Koffee with Karan directors episode
April 19, 2007
An excerpt from Koffee with Karan directors episode which will air on April 22 at 9 pm on Star One and Star World.

Karan: There has been one kind of a remark made by the film fraternity and people from the media that Hrithik Roshan works only with his father Rakesh Roshan... it's only his father that gets the best out of him till Dhoom happened... did you feel an internal divide at home?
Rakesh Roshan: No, not at all. On the contrary I was very happy because the film belonged to my son.

SRK, Hrithik and Zayed = A burning dance floor
April 18, 2007
Bombay Times epaper has a report on Zarine and Sanjay Khan`s Anniversary party which took place at their Juhu home on Monday night. Click for photo

Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Zayed burnt the dance floor down with their mean, dance moves, and matching them groove to groove were their better halves Gauri Khan, Sussanne and Malaika. But Karan Johar's imitation of Hrithik's Dhoom 2 dances were the best ever! Zayed and Zarine's dance on Dus Bahane was adorable.

Hrithik will not perform at Ash-Abishek sangeet
April 17, 2007
Hrithik will not be performing at Ash-Abishek sangeet ceremony

Contrary to media reports, Hrithik who stays about 10 metres away from Prateeksha will not be there. Rakesh Roshan, father of Hrithik Roshan, said,"The reports about Hrithik performing at the function are not true. We are not invited but we wish them a happy married life." -- TOI

-------------
All sorts of stories have been coming out about Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai's nuptials over the last week, but the most ridiculous one appears to be that of Hrithik Roshan dancing at the sangeet (slated for today). But papa Roshan says, "It's not true. Hrithik is not performing at the sangeet. He is shooting for Ashutosh Gowariker's Akbar Jodha in Karjat."

The Roshans, Hrithik, Suzanne, Pinky and Sunaina, won't be going to the wedding, as they haven't been invited. "I wouldn't like to comment on that," says Rakesh. "We are not going. It's a closed family affair and we should respect that. When Hrithik got married, there was lot of pressure on us about who to invite and who to leave out. It's unfair to put that kind of pressure on the Bachchans now. Let's leave them alone. Even I invited only a few people for Hrithik's wedding, so I know they must be in an awkward situation. Let's not embarrass them by discussing this."

Later this year (August/September 2007), event management company Wizcraft had organised the One Amazing Night world tour, featuring The Bachchans, Aishwarya, Hrithik and Priyanka Chopra along with a host of top-notch stars. Now, the tour has been postponed to 2008. While the Bachchans said they were postponing it because of AbhiAsh's wedding, it was reported that Hrithik walked out as he felt he was being marginalised.

Rakesh denies the rumours. "Hrithik's participation hadn't been finalised. This year, he didn't have dates so he couldn't confirm. Now that the dates have been postponed, we'll see how he is placed at that time next year." -- Mid-day

White sand, red hot!
April 6, 2007
Mumbai Mirror reports that Ashutosh Gowarikar has ordered nearly 50 trucks of white sand from Jaipur, just to recreate the effect of in Karjat, where they're shooting now.

The director who has been shooting for his magnum opus Jodha Akbar at Nitin Desai's Studio in Karjat for the last one month, panicked when he realised that Mumbai soil was not a patch on Jaipur soil.

"He needed to take shots of animals and even the long shots would require detailed shots of the soil," says our source. Finally, Ashutosh decided to get trucks loaded with white sand from Jaipur to maintain continuity and not compromise on the production standards of his film. "The same type of sand from Jaipur was ordered so that the authenticity of the film was maintained. White sand is the speciality of Jaipur and they couldn't cheat audiences by using anything else. Finally, huge trucks full of white sands were imported from Jaipur and nearly 65 employees were asked to spread the sands all over," says our source. A good many lakhs of rupees were spent in this exercise though, even though exact figures are difficult to obtain.

This historical film is based on the life of Jodhabai and Mughal emperor Akbar. Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai play the lead roles. "The soil of Mumbai anyway absorbs heat which can get unbearable. But now these white sands are something that absorb even more heat during the summer. So, most of the actors are finding it difficult to give their shots. There are some scenes where character artistes are required to give shots barefoot since in those days, people used to walk without shoes. This is becoming a bit of a problem situation since most of the actors are professional and Ashutosh is making it sure that everyone is treated with equal comfort," says our source.

After all, Ashutosh wouldn't want to be a cruel master would he?

Everyday I tell Hrithik I hate him
April 5, 2007
Kunal Kapoor chats about the special relationship he shares with his childhood friend Hrithik on his appearance on Koffee with Karan. The episode airs on Sunday.

Karan: So you and Hrithik Roshan are childhood friends?
Kunal: Ya
Karan: Tough act to follow
Kunal: It's just very annoying. I call him up every day, and tell him how much I hate him. Because every time you feel you are doing something good, he sets the standard a little higher and then you have to make double the effort. I love him as a person but I hate him professionally, and I make sure I tell him that.

A brush with the stars
April 3, 2007
Make-up artiste GA James talks about the 'real' Hrithik Roshan behind his mask.

I first met him when Rakeshji (Roshan) was launching 'Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai'. I was called to give the trial for Ameesha Patel. They liked my work and I was on. I gave Hrithik two different looks for his double role in the film too. Since then, he hasn't faced the camera without me. He has great shiny skin. He doesn't care much for make-up. It's looking the character that he is playing, be it in 'Koi Mil Gaya', 'Krrish' or 'Dhoom 2', which is important to him.

He has seen huge success but he has remained unchanged as a person. He is the same humble Hrithik. If he doesn't like something, he will not shout. He simply gives you a freezing look. He doesn't have to say anything. I understand. He's a family man and shares a great friendship with wife Sussanne. After pack-up he doesn't waste a minute and heads straight home. He loves playing with his son Rehan.

Rehan has his mother's eyes and is always smiling. Rakeshji is extremely fond of Rehan and keeps his photographs in the office. He keeps adding new ones all the time. On outdoors, Hrithik takes the entire unit for dinner. He decides the menu and gives us all a good time. Hrithik loves chicken, fish and paneer. He takes five meals a day. In 'Jodha Akbar' he looks like a real king. I don't think anybody could look as sexy.

'Duggu has been a portrait of self-improvement'
April 2, 2007
Brother in law Zayed Khan talks about family and Hrithik.

He adds, "Perhaps, I chose 'Cash' (director Anubahv Sinha) and 'Speed' because they required me to exert myself physically. After being confined to bed, I wanted to prove that I was physically fit as I used to be before the bad back." He adds that this penchant to prove a point runs in his family. "Look at Duggu (brother-in-law Hrithik Roshan). He has been a portrait of self-improvement." So is Hrithik a source of inspiration? "Not in a direct way. I don't take any tips from him. But we're a close-knit family. Duggu and I go back a long way. We knew each other before he got to know my sister Sussanne."

Rakesh Roshan plans to do a Superman in Krrish sequel

The father-son duo is out to break new barriers in Bollywood once again. After making India's first superhero film, 'Krrish'. Producer and director Rakesh Roshan has announced that its sequel 'Krrish 2' will have certain sequences where the superhero will be shown in outer space. Hrithik injured again
April 2, 2007
Mumbai Mirror reports that Hrithik injured himself again while shooting a commercial for Sony Ericsson mobile phone.

Hrithik Roshan has taken his superhero role to heart. While shooting for an ad film, he injured himself but decided to continue shooting. With limited time off from Jodha Akbar, he had three days on hand for the ad film shoot and he made sure he met his commitments.

Hrithik Roshan injured his ankle and sprained a muscle while shooting for the ad for a mobile phone company. However, keeping the deadline in mind, he hired a chopper to reach the venue in town and stayed back at a five-star hotel to finish the shoot according to schedule.

Hrithik Roshan says, "Yes, I did injure myself while shooting but since I had made a commitment, I didn't think it would be right to abruptly stall the shoot. I took some painkillers to ease the pain and decided to continue the shoot." He further adds, "A campaign is not just about the artiste. It also involves hard work of a lot of people behind the scene and I felt that I could overcome the pain rather than delay the entire project."

Dhiraj Soni, marketing manager of the product, informs, "Yes, we were shooting at Yashraj studios and he had given us about three days to shoot the ad. It was a photo shoot that displayed his energy and athletic prowess, when he sprained his back muscle very badly. He was obviously in a lot of pain. But, he took painkillers and finished the day's shoot. We were worried about the next day, but I appreciate his commitment to his job and his intention to finish, according to schedule. He came to the shoot next day which was at Mukesh Mills in a chopper and stayed in a five-star in town, so that he didn't have to travel and he paid for all the expenses. I genuinely appreciate his effort and his company Carving Dreams which left no stone unturned to finish the shoot as per the deadline."

'It's good to be Hrehaan's mom'
April 2, 2007
Sussanne talks about her bundle of joy, Hrehaan. Can't wait for Sussanne and Hrithik to have a daughter, then she will look more like Hrithik.

Celebrations continue at the Roshans' Juhu residence, as star son Hrehaan turned one on March 28. Hrithik, who rushed in from sets of Jodha Akbar at Karjat, and wife Sussanne settled for a small birthday party for their baby boy on Wednesday evening. The guests included close family friends. Hrehaan, says, mommy Sussanne is "doing really, really well. It's good to be his mom." With papa Hrithik rushing through a hectic schedule the family didn't have any grand plans for the day. Says Sussanne, "I had this little birthday thing at home." Ask her about her son's activities and she says, "No, thankfully he's a very good baby and he doesn't trouble me at all." The star son who is yet to make his appearance hardly resembles daddy. Says Sussanne, "He is too cute. He has got my looks more than Hrithik's." However, mommy refused to reveal the gifts that she got for baby Hrehaan. "Just lots of love," she says.
